Dived into the introduction, culling scrawled comments from the Writers Group session back in October. Started work on a new outline. First thing that struck me was that I need a new lead-in: given that pilgrimage is not a key theme in this book, I don't think it's a good idea for the very first paragraph to conjure an image of pilgrims swarming up the mountain. Instead, I made some notes about another possible lead-in involving an excerpt or summary of the 1850 manuscript by the parish priest of Lucban, Fr. Victoriano del Moral.
Whatever the lead-in ends up being, it has to touch upon my three key concepts: scale (or territoriality), superstition (or Catholic authority), and cultural citizenship.
